Cycling cap and/or contacts. Forget the lid - they're s
hite.
I visited a CCer (it must have been pre CC thinking about it) about 7 or 8 years ago in the neurosurgery unit in Frenchay after he had been taken off his bike by a deer of all things on a downhill path near Dursley. He had been in a coma for about a week after that, and he was in a bit of a mess. Others around him on the ward were also recovering from brain injuries and some were in a worse state than him, and TBH, I really have no intention of becoming an inpatient there. He wasn't wearing a lid, and I asked him afterwards if he thought it prudent that he wear one in future and the answer was yes....(mitigation)
Honestly, I'd rather take the advice of someone who has been there, and got the T-shirt than someone who has looked at a bunch of stats.
Remember my mate who was taken off my motorbike about 4 years ago and sustained some very serious injuries right in front of me....he said it would never happen to him and really was quite a gung- ho rider before then.....he isn't now, and so after experiencing first hand how bad it can be, has decided to mitigate by using a bit more caution in similar circimstances....or letting other in the group lead
I've also experienced first hand how bad things can get when it goes wrong and spent 6 months on crutches with a bust knee (and pain which is hard to describe, but never forgotten) so I also like to mitigate as and when I can...which is why I like to wear the hat
