How about trying a golf visor or cutting the material away from a baseball cap.

The one i've got to use is a cap, not a big chunky boyznthehood style one
It does fit under my MET so i can carry it in my bag for the eventuality. I'll let you know how i get on

It is just for the specs. I could wear contacts, but the specs do afford a bit of protection from foreign objects.

Cycling cap and/or contacts. Forget the lid - they're shite.

I visited a CCer (it must have been pre CC thinking about it) about 7 or 8 years ago in the neurosurgery unit in Frenchay after he had been taken off his bike by a deer of all things on a downhill path near Dursley. He had been in a coma for about a week after that, and he was in a bit of a mess. Others around him on the ward were also recovering from brain injuries and some were in a worse state than him, and TBH, I really have no intention of becoming an inpatient there. He wasn't wearing a lid, and I asked him afterwards if he thought it prudent that he wear one in future and the answer was yes....(mitigation)

Honestly, I'd rather take the advice of someone who has been there, and got the T-shirt than someone who has looked at a bunch of stats.

Remember my mate who was taken off my motorbike about 4 years ago and sustained some very serious injuries right in front of me....he said it would never happen to him and really was quite a gung- ho rider before then.....he isn't now, and so after experiencing first hand how bad it can be, has decided to mitigate by using a bit more caution in similar circimstances....or letting other in the group lead

I've also experienced first hand how bad things can get when it goes wrong and spent 6 months on crutches with a bust knee (and pain which is hard to describe, but never forgotten) so I also like to mitigate as and when I can...which is why I like to wear the hat ;)

I was in a motorbike accident in 1991 which broke both my arms and right leg. I hada full face helmet and still lost all my top front teeth. Without a helmet I would not be here. Whats it got to do with cycling? I was travelling at less than 20Mph. I go faster than that on my bike.

Sometimes I wear a bike helmet, sometimes I dont. We all have to make that Call.

What I never do and as far as I am concerned, nobody else should do. Is to encourage people not to wear safety gear, whether it be helmets or vis vests. Let them decide.

I was not aiming that at anyone inparticular, it was just in general. But other people do read these posts and may not realise you are joking. I didnt.

From however they make their decisions Adrian.

Well, I just did about 10 miles of this mornings ride in the rain, and the cap has made a really big difference. That said, I did about 15 miles last night with the cap and it helped to keep my head nice and warm so I'm sold. Thanks for the tip @Hacienda71

I wear basic clear safety glasses over my contact lenses. They give a lot more protection, especially wind resistance, than my prescription glasses. I wear a visor on my helmet to keep the rain drops off the specs, but no matter what you do they always get some vision obstructing rain drops on 'em. Carry some kitchen towel to wipe the drops off while you're waiting at the traffic lights etc.
