I popped into the local health centre today to book a check-up with Nursey. I would have thought that they would prefer folk to ride rather than drive (especially as car parking is horrendous nearby!)
Maybe they are just encouraging a weight lifting fitness program...

It's only been bolted on couple of feet too high after all!

Still, most places near here don't have anything sensible to use to lock a bike up. Most often a metal support pole that'll take the paint off.

Put in by someone who has no idea about locking up cycles? Did you point it out to them?

Perfect height. Turn the bike 90° and lock the frame to the rack.
Exactly what I did! Luckily the paintwork on my old SS doesn't matter much..

Yep.. I got a similar response as when I suggested to the local shop that they put a sensible place to lock bikes. IE: Not much help.

My doctor's practice has two surgeries and zero bike locking facilities. When I locked my bike alongside the entrance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital near Woolwich I was told that it would be removed for aesthetic reasons by a security clone. Fancy that, a hospital's image being harmed by having a bike locked up outside it.

Whilst I note your observations regarding the lack of facilities for cyclists on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site, I have to inform you that we are consistently striving to improve the aesthetics of the site, and this would include discouraging cycles from being chained to our main entrance.

EDIT: And here's a photo of (someone else's bike) degrading the appearance of the hospital.

Dear Queen Elizabeth Hospital,
I refuse to be ill in Woolwich as there appears to be a velocipede obscuring the enjoyment of your frontage!

Yours truly

You could always try embarrasing them on twitter! Esp when cycling is good for your health, for a hospital to be discouraging it...

I did stick up a blog post at the time but that was over 2 years ago. QE Hospital is the one that's mismanaged itself into immense debt and some farthead decided they'd close Lewisham A&E to save money wasted by a different health authority. Lewisham had to have a big battle to get the decision reversed.

My local hospital was completely rebuilt with acres of car parking but no cycle parking. I complained and after a bit a number of pseudo Sheffield Stands were installed, but each was so close to the next one that it was difficult to get a bike in between them. I just lean my bike against the wall as close to the main door as possible without causing a hazard to anyone going out and in, no one has complained so far.

NO SMOKING IN HOSPITAL OR GROUNDS.The tw888 stand under the sign and smoke some attached to drips. I give up.:cursing:
