So it turns out I need to start arriving at work earlier. All the sensible non-wheel damaging indoor sheffield stands were full which meant I was greeted by this...

The most amusing thing was the 'anti-theft' method that seemed to have been implemented on this bike - I think the owner hopes to find the bike thief in a wall/car/bollard at the end of the road. I seriously hope he didn't cycle into work with the bleed nuts missing... no brakes, oil everywhere... argh!

It turns out they just have really recessed nuts... Magura Julie brakes for the record...

it's an interesting anti-theft idea though...

It would be an effective punishment. The cynic in me feels that it would end up with the owner of the bike being prosecuted for endangering lives by deliberately rendering the brakes ineffective. Perhaps I'm just too bitter and twisted.

Yes but it just needs one passing person to give the brake levers a squeeze and the punishment is all the owners.

I don't think anyone is going to be needing the brakes to ride away a bike without a front wheel!

Although, you could just steal the front wheel from the other MTB there... can only see the small cable lock around the frame.

Or someone else vandalised the bike by removing the bleed nuts? I'd be careful leaving a bike there!

Nah... turns out they just have odd recessed nuts in them (you can seem them if you look closely). I would hope no-one who has access to this car park would do anything like that (its a private office car park), but it does make you think about giving your brakes a quick test before speeding off into the sunset on the way home!!!
