they don't have to last the night - the important time is the two hours or so after sunset.

We've got solar lights in the garden. They cost £2.50 each. They're been working fine after 18 months.

I can report I've still not cycled along that path in the dark ... but that they are still all in place a year later.

whatever happened to the simply perfectly functional cat eye?

Some of the new style cateyes they've been putting on roads the last three or four years, if you put on a cycle path could mean you'd crash. There would be a real safety risk there. Only thing in their favour is they'd probably be at the edge of the path so considerably lower risk.

I like these marker lights, it's a good idea.

Had some installed around cambridge, there is a very dark unlit path I go on and they have def help with visibility. Also they are nice and flat so you don't feel them if you end up accidentally going over.
 
Clyne Valley, lights are still covered in leaves even after the sweeper has done a run
