They are yellow-bellied cowards who are just bullies because they are protected by their cars. On the odd occasion that I lose the plot at a driver, they tend to be all beeping and shouting abuse and gesticulating at me ... while they can get away ... it's a different story when I catch them up and they can't get away ...

I've had a driver repeatedly over take me at speed, pull in to the curb, brake sharply, presumably to make me ride straight into him... or possibly because he had to slow down and make way for me as I avoided a curbside grid in order to get his own back (no concept of primary or secondary at the time so always rode in the gutter).... any how, when he was stopped at the light I was furious as he'd pulled the same stunt four or five times within say 30 seconds... we exchanged obscenities at the light through his closed driver window, but what I should have done was got of my bike, picked it up, smashed his back window with it and shouted "Is that what you want?" ... an over reaction maybe, but far more satisfying than just hurling abuse.

I saw that on The Kings Road once, a cyclist was being aggressively tailgated and beeped so he dismounted, shouted "have it!" and threw the bike onto the bonnet.

Many years ago, I was driving in rush hour in Nottingham. Waiting at a red light, a cyclist pulled up level with the car in front of me and started giving him some abuse for something that must have happened previously.

A bit of shouting to and fro, then suddenly, the driver grabbed the cyclist, pulled his head in through the open window and started laying punches on him. The cyclist gave as good as he got and after about 30 seconds he managed to wriggle free.

He then hopped on his bike and cycled off, laughing hysterically and jingling the driver's car keys. The lights turned green and this guy just got out of his car and scratched his head.

Hilarious.
