Not sure, do you know the distance. My guess is your average speed would be about 10 to 12 mph on a quiet day. I was just talking about that today with my wife when we went cycling on the Brampton railway path

Well I think its about 20 miles so I reckon it would take me about just under 2 hours depending on the amount of pedestrians encountered.

I don't think the route is all doable by canal towpath, is it? If it is, I'd guess it would be quite steady going.
I'd personally Just use google maps for the route on the cycle mode. From Foxton is the route down to Northampton which I will do in the next few weeks when I am back at work.

The Brampton Valley Railway (disused) is a great cycle way from Market Harborough to Northampton. you will need very good lights for the two old railway tunnels but its a great country side ride and not as slow as a tow path as you don't get too many peds. I think the tow path from Thurmaston to Foxton is quite doable and a nice route as long as you are not looking at going fast

Thank you all for your input. Thurmaston to foxton take roughly 3 & half hours if we haven't had to much rain because it floods easy and it narrows at certain parts so looking forward to it. Going to have a go very soon will let you all no how we get on going by towpath so fingers crossed. Also so there a few watering hole's (hic) on the way and when we get there so yep sounds a nice first time 50 mile's round trip on my Garyfisher bike yipeeeeee now all I've got to do is think what I'm going to need to take with us. So once again thank you all for info.enjoy your cycling and most of all be safe and wear your helmet :-)
