The best one is the A-Z - roads are what you want to get places.

Only in one very small area, not much good to the rest of us...

They do indeed cover all of the UK, and very well too, IMO.

In fact, I recommended this map to someone on here recently for navigating the trip from Anglesey to Oxfordshire.

What? A road map called "Central England & Wales" wouldn't be of any use in Scotland? Well, who would have guessed that, eh.

You'll be telling me that the map for Scotland won't help you successfully navigate through Snowdonia next.

I've used the A to Z road maps to plan cycling trips for a long time. They have a handy scale, using only 2 of them to plan the route from London to Land's End or just one to get to North Wales.

In all seriousness, the A-Z is great, but nothing is more convenient than being able to plan a route online. My personal favorite is bikehike. I was, however, somewhat dismayed when they took away the ability to save routes due to legalities!

Indeed, and I now use the same combination. Once the route is planned and started, though, the A-Z is both easier and more convenient to carry and refer to.

Although I have never needed to save a bikehike route (I'm more a "plan it, print it, ride it" kinda guy ) I think it's a shame that the option has gone and the reasoning behind it is quite a sad reflection of blame culture, IMO.
