Hidden in the text is the fact that the "yob" has a
Personality disorder. Mental illness is no joke, this man needs help not public humiliation by a newspaper.

It doesn't mention mental illness, just that he has a personality disorder:

Tim Edgeley, defending, said Clarke had ‘lost the plot’ after the breakdown in his relationship.

He said: “The defendant struggles with a personality disorder and his perception of complex situations is different to that of a normal person.

Note that it was his defence lawyer who brought this matter up. It could be said that all selfish, aggressive nobbers have personality disorders. Since when did this become a mental illness, or a valid defence for just being bad?

Personality disorder is often served up as a mitigating factor by the defence in an attempt to reduce the severity of the sentence. His guilt was proven, his personality disorder wasn't.

It would be an assumption on our part that this was a false claim by the defence.

Another couple of points, I didn't contest the court judgement, I contested the newspaper article.

It could be argued that Internet forums are largely populated with sufferers of histrionic personality disorder.

Keep your hair on.
