Wondering if anyone has run the numbers from an ecology point of view: wouldn't it be better to have this numbercrunching done on purpose-built hardware and let consumer PCs save electricity by going to sleep instead?
It may not be as if you use servers they cost a lot to keep cool, also you won't get anywhere as much work done, as the computing power of a server won't be as much as the combined power of may networked computers. In F@H they also only use spare clock cycles on the CPU and therefore doesn't use much more power than normal.
