CycleChat.net is moving from http:// to https:// (secure web pages)

Hello Everyone,

I'm going to switch CycleChat over to https (secure web pages) on the evening of Saturday 14th Jan, 2017.

I don't expect it to cause any major disruption and the server should automatically redirect you to the secure https://www.cyclechat.net/ address once it is enable.

You may need to login again (don't forget to tick the box to remember your login details) and for some time after the switch you're likely to see a broken padlock in your browser address bar; this doesn't mean there is a problem, just that some items on the page are coming from external or non-secure sources. These should eventually go away as I convert the hundreds of thousands of external images to CC-hosted attachments.

Whilst we don't strictly require https for CycleChat, it's a useful upgrade as it ensures account details and data transferred from CC to you is secure:

Data sent using HTTPS is secured via Transport Layer Security protocol (TLS), which provides three key layers of protection:

• Encryption. Encrypting the exchanged data to keep it secure from eavesdroppers. This means that while you are browsing CycleChat, nobody can “listen” to conversations, track activities across multiple pages or steal information.
• Data integrity. Data cannot be modified or corrupted during transfer, intentionally or otherwise, without being detected.
• Authentication. Proves that you communicate with the intended website - protecting again man-in-the-middle attacks.

If you encounter any problems during or after the switch, please post in the support forum to let me know. If you cannot access CC after the switch, please us the site contact form.

Sorted.

There are still some non-secure items in signatures that need attention and a lot of old links to update, but I'll sort those over the coming weeks.

Apologies for the earlier outage - I was cleaning up some files on the server that were related to the switch-over and inadvertantly knocked-out the web server.

On the plus side I took the opportunity to update the cyclingticker.com tickers so they can now be now served via http and https so they no longer 'break' the page on CC.
