I thought you said you had a traders policy.

Which only covers me for the van and bikes + customers bikes and im fairly sure they would laugh at me if i tried to add a Porsche to the policy as a company vehicle. The new car will be GFs vehicle and not mine, I would simply be a named driver so that I can drive it occasionally.

She has a commute of 45 miles each way. Mostly A roads. 5 days a week with a fair few trips for work which tend to be 150 miles + each way.
We also go to Cardiff alot, usually every other weekend sometimes more often.

Probably worth looking for a diesel then.
20/21 - something a bit younger and funkier? Fiat 500 or an Alfa Mito. (My wife would love a 500 - seems quite a 'girly' car) the JTDM diesels are quite nice. And they both look better than anything from Japan (or Swindon). You could even get a Mini for the budget.

(Piemaster now sits back and waits for the usual cries of Fix It Again Tony/ all Alfas dissolve in the rain, etc.

It is a sad day at 2212 Towers today.... Carolina the Corsa died in glorious battle in the wind and rain on GFs commute this morning... With it being 23 years old and having served us well for the last 3 1/2 years it is time that it is retired from active duty

So CycleChat, We are asking you to recommend us a car... so here is what we need -
4 doors and a half decent boot size.
Not too big but big enough for a 6ft7 giant to drive it comfortably occasionally.
A engine size no bigger than 1.6 for insurance purposes (we are 20 and 21 years old with 0 NCD).
Diesel or petrol, either one we arent too fussed about that but has to return a decent MPG figure.
Something that will last us for a good few years and not need constant work to keep it on the road.
We have a budget of £6,500 so are looking at used.
We have ruled out the following - Vauxhall Corsa (new style), Ford Focus (all) and VW Golfs (all).

£6995 will buy you a brand new Dacia Logan in basic spec.

I've bored people senseless with how happy I am with mine (top of range special edition). I can't comment on how it is for a 6'7" person to drive. You will have to check that out. But if you want bargain basement new, then there is nothing comparable in it's size. It's approx Focus estate/3 series estate sized.
You can take a finance package which gives 4 years warranty and you can pay that package off at any time that suits.
One benefit is that it can be serviced anywhere that will use Dacia/Renault approved parts and keep it's warranty. Furthermore tyres etc are reasonable small and simple spec so cheap to replace too.

Tried to sit in a Fiat 500 recently when I purchased the van, I could fit in but even with alot of adjustment the steering wheel was touching my legs, We have a need for 4 doors as we babysit/take nieces/nephews to/from their mothers/fathers so need the extra doors. Do like the look of the Mito though....

TOYOTA!
I have a 2006 Corolla 1600 VVTi. Touching wood here, but I have had it since 2009, and it has done 85k miles. Apart from routine servicing it has needed nothing. I tell a lie; ONE headlight bulb about 2 years ago. That is it. Original clutch, exhaust, and even bulbs with that one exception.
40 mpg, low insurance group, VED £210.
The only way it might not meet your requirements is the 6'7" driver bit (I am 6'0" and there is plenty spare headroom but maybe not 7" of it), but there is a "Verso" version available with a raised roof.
You will have plenty change out of your £6500 too.

PS.. It is also quite fun to drive, and can shift when the valve trickery kicks in. I say that as a previous owner of Golf Gti's..

Of course that would include Skoda & Seat.

I second Fab Foodie. Why buy second-hand when you can have a brand new car for the same money with 3/4year guarantee? Take a good look at the Dacia Sandero. It is basically a Renault so well tested and proven engineering. Well worth a test drive.

My Renault Clio Sports Tourer cost me £6000 for a 10-plate back in April. Similar 1.5 dCi engine as in the Dacias (and the Mercedes Benz A-Class), my average fuel consumption is above 50mpg with a mix of dual carriageway and urban driving without trying. Plenty of space inside, and it has most of the toys - auto lights & wipers, Tomtom satnav, cruise control and speed limiter, and VED is £30 a year. I'm happy.

I can Imagine the heart attack we would give our insurance company telling them that we want to insure a 20 and 21 year old on a Porsche Boxster

Will have to look abit more into them, Have heard mixed reviews on them.
