does anybody here use them?

I've just had somebody pitch up for an FNRttC bearing CycleGuard insurance. I've said that it doesn't meet our requirements, because the top cover is £5M - the CTC offers affiliate members £10M for £15 a year.

I filled in the Cycleguard quote thingy, and it came back as £44. That's boring old no-claims middleaged me. That seems like a lot for less.

Seems very expensive, although I think with theft/recovery etc it seems more competitive compared to others (without reading the policy details). It's a lot cheaper buying in bulk - presumably what the ctc does. Our club buys insurance for all members on rides, and the policy is charged on the number of members (apparently they renew at the start of the year when there are fewer members:whistle:). Can't remember how much, but it's cheaper than the ctc price, the full member subs are £18 and we pay 10p/ride (£1 for non-members) towards insurance.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
The liability insurance feels very expensive indeed compared with the CTC et al. It's really up to you (and probably the CTC too) whether you think a £5m limit of liability is adequate. Let's put it this way - a £5m claim is a monster. It's a fairly young quadriplegia or tetraplegia with no reduced life expectancy and round-the-clock care for life.

The theft insurance is interesting, too. Hedged around with terms and conditions, no more than 3 bikes quotable on line and no more than £10,000 total value. The quote I got for £10,000 worth of bikes would be rather expensive to insure the house I'm sitting in - and it's more than I'm paying (with staff discount) to cover all of our bikes as well as house and contents.

I'd also quite like to know who the insurer is. JLT is a broker, so presumably they've got a carrier in the background. I was under the impression they were supposed to tell you who that is...

I use em for theft as the house and contents policy won't cover a bike costing more than five hundred nicker. Not cheap but were a fair way short of the most expensive when I was looking.

I wouldn't worry about it - the CTC don't even like BC insurance much for FNRttC do they ? Sandal, beardie wearing lot !

that actually sounds more expensive than the CTC coverage for clubs. We pay £75 a year because we have over 250 members, and individual club members pay £15 a year to the CTC for £10million coverage.

They've got hold of the data from the Ditchling Road speed camera...

I used them a couple of years ago. As srw said, the small print for the theft insurance is shocking. They wanted £40 odd for £700 of cover. I've now got £1000 of cover for £18 on my home contents policy including cover when abroad. They don't even specify the type of lock.

I couldn't find the Key Facts. My search-fu must be weak.

Depending on who handles claims, the insurance carrier might have a bearing on the cover.

I had to drill down to read the Key Facts, which shows the insurer is Ageas Insurance Ltd, who I've come across before (previously known as Fortis).
Tis them. Some aspects are covered by UK Insurance Ltd.

Now given that neither my bank, my building society, nor my home and contents cover provider, for they are the same lovely people, can cover my fleet or any one mount within it, who are the holy grail provider of 'stand-alone' theft cover for bikes without onerous t's and c's?
