This is truly a shock, Cycleops definitely came across a decent chap, what with him keeping the local kids bikes going and so on, R.I.P John, you’re going to be missed

Not the CC famous fake cloned  Rolex you mean?! Someone offered me a 'genuine' Rolex Submariner divers watch the other week for £3000. I asked them to leave it out the box for a few minutes, so the glow in the dark numerals could absorb some natural light. Guess what! On cupping my hand over the watch's face, those glow in the dark numerals didn't glow.

Doesn’t mean it’s fake, Rolex and other good luminous watches above a certain age used Tritium radioactive paint, which didn’t need light activation , but after a few years ,20+, lost its activity, so like my (ex-army so impeccable pedigree) Explorer won’t glow now, 30 years on.

I'm sad to hear of this news but thank you Bromley Boy for letting us know.

I really enjoyed CycleOps' banter. Let's remember him for all the lovely comments and conversations we had with him. I will miss him.

Ah my fears at the start of this thread have proved out. Very sad, but at least he didn't suffer and his last moments in life were quite something.

Above is a link to the funeral eulogies which make good reading. His exit not withstanding he seemed like a good chap. He was always very knowledgeable on vintage bikes, with a tendency to prescribe marathon+ tyres and a rigid mountain bike a the solution to anyone problem ^_^

RIP @Cycleops

Not sure if this is the right time to post this, but I just did a quick Google of "John Hughes death Ghana" to see if there was anything about cause of death....

Bloody Hell !!

I was in two minds about posting John's name (and perhaps I shouldn't have), knowing a Google search would show the circumstances in which he died. Festering on this a little today (aided by winter blues and grey skies), I feel more deflated than yesterday when I found out about his death. But I'll look to the positive and remember him as a real, mellow, knowledgeable gent who I was privileged to meet.

I read them, he was obviously very fondly thought of and loved. Two things I took from them was that he was very generous with his time in fixing people's bikes and he loved to disobey his wife and sneak treats to his kids!
