Spent a little while on Skye (a couple of Summers) and was really lucky (I guess) with the weather. Is it really that bad ...as that sounds like it could go on the list???

I don't really have a 'bucket list' as I tend to steer well clear of the box-ticking approach to life. I just hope to continue enjoying cycling really.

+1, no bucket list here either, I've been cycling, and enjoying it, for a very long time and long may it continue.

For a small fee, I could be persuaded to let people know when I'm planning to go on to Skye - just so they know for sure when NOT to do it!

The Glue that binds us together.
As a regular visitor to the isle of wight I've always wanted to cycle round it, some stunning scenery and testing hills! Just never got round to it though
Done that one a couple of times now, yes it's got a few hills, my wife walked up most of them, but that was herfirst proper ride when i first met her, she is much better at hills now, a very realxing ride nice country side, and a few nice pubs,

[sup]I like to just go south / east and end up somewhere unplanned. Maybe south Russia ? Then worry about how I would get back home.[/sup]

Nothing wrong with having something to aim for !!

Aye that true you can pick up a card and fill it in yourself, then pop it through some letter box and they then up date your time onto the web site... I just fancy doing it with lots of cyclists on the route.

On my bucket list is the ride from Tibet to Kathmandu, Etape du Tour, the Fred Whitton, Ventoux and a new PB on Alpe d'Huez. Only really been back on the bike a year but with any luck will have at least two knocked off next year. My advice...just keep talking to other cyclists who have done different types of riding and cherry pick things that appeal to you.

You don't need to do any 'big' things at all.

It's a hobby, that is also very good to keep you fit, without having the dullness of a gym.

TBH in the 25 years I've been cycling, I've never done a tour, I've ridden 120 miles in 6 hours, but so what. Been up Snowdon (on new MTB's - no suspension rubbish in early 90's - that bike I still have and it has had a right mixed 'life') - but nothing outstanding. Been to France and rode (flat) and to IOM, and to Lanzarotte, but it's minimal really. Raced a fair amount from 18 to late 20's, had a laugh and a half.

I've done the IOM International Cycling Week twice - that was ace - shame it ended.

It's great, that's why - you keep fit to enjoy the ride - you get great countryside etc. Crawling/walking up a hill is no fun - that's what a non cyclist would do. We ride it, get knackered, and carry on.

Having heard about the Fred Whitton from the start I'd like to do it, but my current gearing on my 'classic' machines won't get me over the hills, especially with my shoulder - I hope that will be resolved.
