Cycling etiquette or knowing the road traffic law has little to do with it, as with most bad drivers, the majority of bad cyclists are probably just selfish and don't really care if they are doing something wrong, or something that might have a negative effect on other road users.

As peanut says "Seems to me that city cycling is pretty much the same as driving nowadays every man for himself". And in a big city like London, it's just all the more apparent.

As for pillocks on bikes on paths, I usually ride past and say, 'I thought you were a kid, normally young children have to ride on a path'

Shame them is the way to go.;)

Perhaps we should hand out white feathers to them?

I think most of the problem is due to commuters having come to cycling late in life have no idea of cycling etiquette or the road traffic law .

every man for himself;)

When I talk to non-cyclists, they seem to have a perception that cycling on the road is dangerous. So perhaps it's (misplaced) risk aversion that makes people cycle on pavements?

Even when I'm in a car (not driving), I always think cycling looks more dangerous than it is, then I remember how much space they have and that they know it as well.

In and around Manchester I see a lot of cyclists RLJ, pavement riding, riding in the wrong direction, riding with no lights and wearing black at night.
I also see some good cyclists.

I cowardice (and selfishness) is the main reason(s), after all why do so many pavement cyclist wear helmets? Now where is that bag of white feathers...
