I've done both & enjoyed both, but I need to be confident that my friend(s) are a similar fitness level & ride at similar speeds. I have a friend who meets this criteria & we've toured together a few times now. Unfortunately he cant come with me on tour in September  I have another friend who is interested, but rides considerably slower & prefers pub stops through the day rather than cafe stops, so I'm going alone this year

If you go on popular sustrans routes, you'll probably meet other cyclists en-route & on an evening if you want company

I think it's great you have went on your own.
Wish I had the confidence to go away for few days cycling holiday on my own

Yes, it's just that I get a bit lonely on my own!

I'm divorced, when my son goes on holiday with his Dad I often pootle off by myself somewhere, but I do get lonely! Maybe if I had a small dog to take it would be better!

I'd say it depends on what type of person you are:

Extrovert - gets energy from those around you - go as a group
Introvert - gets energy from yourself - go alone.

Remember 'Introvert' doesn't necessarily mean shy. You can be introverted and still enjoy the company of others.

I'm an extrovert, which doesn't necessarily mean that I am an annoying Tigger-like person in groups with too much to say that you always try to avoid (although it IS true in my case), but it does mean that on a ride there is a little voice inside my head saying "you've gone far enough already. Turn round and go home" even from the start. But if I'm in a group the same voice is saying "go on - push them just that little bit further and faster - you're enjoying it."

I would go alone. The exception to this would be if I had the right lady partner in my life who was also a keen cyclist. The group thing doesn't work for me, to much faffing around.

That apply to lejog too then?

I was cycling on my own today, 60 miles , few coffee stops and loads of people wanted to talk to me. Too many for my liking hehe ;))

I tend to cycle tour on my own. I like not having to fit in with everyone else - and the idea of cycle touring with Mr R fills me with dread...

That said, I have organised tours for small groups of friends, including one to Malta few years ago. I'm curently working on a WW1 tour which I may open to others.
I've been thinking about this too too (an overseas bike jaunt) saw a group one that goes to Cuba. One of my main qualms is the heat though..What time of year were you riding in Malta?

I love the idea that massive locks protect my pride and joy from thieves and see them as an essential part of my cycle camping inventory as my tent. They're a value for money contribution to my peace of mind.

I take my usual full locks too, but always feel a bit worried about panniers/equipment. I lock panniers to frame, but always worry about tent etc.

I had permission to swan off for 2 weeks to do LEJOG, then we started fostering & the wife wont let me go & leave her for 2 weeks now  So I spent the money I would have spent on a new car ^_^
