You're about to become very familiar with the joys of the Sugarhouse. You'll have a great time - I'm very envious.

(I did Environmental Science there).

I thought that had closed down???

Nope

What is the nightlife in Lancaster like? Of course all the students that go there say it is great....but what is it really like?

A lot of Lancaster students end up in Preston at weekends - not sure what that says about Lancaster... I spent a few weeks in Lancaster a few years ago, and it wasn't great, but has probably improved a lot since...

Cycling is very strong in Lancaster Montage. I used to attend a bi-annual event hosted at St Martins College but owing to legislation, insurance costs and other things, it was disbanded in the early 2000s. There are cycle rescue places, cycle charities etc. Cycling around Lancaster is great. There are a few really good (I mean tough) climbs in the city itself, there is a great cycle track that leads past the Salt Aire track out towards Morecambe, which has an improved reputation nowadays, although there's probably no night life for you students, it's still quaint and retro.

You can get on a train and go up to the lakes with your bike. All in all you're not really far to have a good ride out in the nearest hills, if you're used to mileage, which I presume you are, as you were asking about TT courses.

Go for it! & good luck with the course, which is just the sort of thing I wish I'd done years ago!

Luckily, I don't think I have the money for a heavy night life anyway...and have a few close friends in/going to manchester and Liverpool, so that isn't an issue

Mileage is no issue - glad I've found a place with brilliant cycling and a great course.....at last!

You weren't allowed to keep a car on campus when I was there, unless you had a special dispensation. I thought it was fair enough - there's not enough room and the bus service to town is frequent and cheap. Besides, it's not far to cycle.

Nightlife is a bit limited, but there are plenty of good pubs (often with decent bands playing) and of course the aforementioned sugarhouse. There's a student night at the Carlton in Morecambe, with a bus service to campus. Cheesy but cheap. And of course the campus bars themselves - you'll no doubt have a go at playing the 9 holes at some point in your first term. Assuming that there are still 9 bars of course.

I say all this as someone who graduated 10 years ago...

Levens may be a quick course but often to get a ride in an open you may have to already be able to do a quick time (< 23:00) as it is obviously a popular course for the time chasers. Kent Valley RC does 3 club events on it during the season.

Can't add anything to the advice already given by others but I've got family up in Spinneys town so would give you a bell for a ride when I'm up Monty.

I haven't been out in Lancaster for a long long while but I'm told there's still plenty of good beer being sold - John O'Gaunt for starters.

Do lancaster appear in the Uni road racing leagues?
