Hi,

I have been reading a bit about cycling in Mallorcan and some of the articles have mentioned the sheer volume of cyclists and that the roads can be a little dangerous to cycle on. What are people's experiences of cycling in Mallorca? And what would be a good part of the island to head to if you are a novice - but fairly fit - touring cyclist (It's very hilly in parts I understand)? Deia is supposed to be beautiful I hear.

Thanks a lot

It's quite hilly in parts although the roads are mostly really good quality. A lot of people use Majorca as a winter training base do it must be doing something right!

The danger thing I know nothing about but everything else is worth it.

As already said, roads are quite good, and in early summer fairly quite, I don't think that driving standards are as good the UK though!!
The mountain roads are very popular with cyclists I found .........but you need to be fit for those climbs.
Overall I would say a good place for cycling, I really did enjoy the place, and there are a lots of very scenic flat routes if that is what you like.

I have just booked my flight for a cycling visit in April 2013. Going with my club, but compared with most of the members I am an unfit novice. Need to get some miles and some climbs in before April 2013, so thats my incentive now!

Just got back from one weeks cycling in Majorca and I am already looking at booking for next year. The place is cycling heaven. Got lucky with the weather, 20 to 25 degrees every day and no rain. Good hotel, wall to wall cyclists, nice road surfaces, little traffic, tough climbs, amazing descents, fabulous scenery and beautiful little villages. What else could a cyclist ask for!
