Today I set out from my house deep in the countryside of Spain for a bike ride. I didn't have a specific destination in mind, but wanted to cycle a bit before finding a lovely spot to paint. So I cycled along a rough track towards the mountain nature reserve called, El Carche. It was such a pleasant day for the end of September, warm sunshine but not too hot, just right for a ride in the mountains. I noticed a few cars moving along in the distance down in the valley and thought how lucky I was to be here breathing in the clean fresh air. This started me thinking: Some people are probably sitting watching the television right now, maybe eating plates full of fatty foods or nibbles, but I was burning off fat.
Many busy people are stressed about something or other, but I was taking my time enjoying every moment. Thousands of people all over the world are sat at their computers, but I am getting some good weight controlling exercise.
Millions of people are stuck in stuffy offices, but I am cycling and taking time to enjoy some of the best things in life.
A large bird of pray hovered above on a current of air so I stopped for a while, taking time to watch it and marvel at all the beauty surrounding me.
I went on for an hour, then sat on an old stonewall to paint a vineyard and an old Bodega (Winery) in total silence except for the insects and birds and then cycled for another hour to get back home, tired but so relaxed and very happy. I don’t mountain bike like this every day as I have paintings to do, art classes to teach and holidays to organize but my husband is a cycling nut and can do 100k on the near empty roads around here in a day. I only cycle when I can, but I love it because it’s so peaceful here.
