Does any glasses CCrs have a solution/advice about when they cycle in the rain? I can't do contacts and my spexs are varifocal other than getting a Timmy Mallet contraption (glasses with little windscreen wipers on)!

I'm also extremely short sighted so riding without them on is not an option.

I've tried wearing a baseball cap but of course the wind blows it off! I've had to go back for it many times

So what's your experience then cyclists with spex?

Does the baseball cap help before it blows off - if so would a helmet help to keep it on (she whispers - not wanting to start helmet wars).

I do wear a helmet but i think i'll look for a new one (all those flamin' shops i've been in the last 3 weeks!!!!!)

I couldn't wear the cap under the helmet though there's no room...

I wear glasses too. Have tried contacts but didn't get on with them. A helmet peak keeps most of the rain off.

You can buy sports glasses with interchangeable lenses - dark for sun, clear for night and yellow for when you just want the world to look brighter. Then you buy inserts with prescription lenses that go inside the frames but they look naff and steam up easily and they're heavy.

I got some very tasty Rudy Projects made up with my prescription by Steve Brown the technician at Active Eyes in Radcliffe, near Bury. Unfortunately they have been taken over by Yates & Suddell but Steve is still there and will undertake all kinds of specials that most technicians won't touch.

What about a helmet with a peak then? - and when you choose a helmet you should choose one with abit of room in it. What I mean is that I could fit in a small helmet (just) but as I wear a buff in winter time I fit into a medium size better which can be adjusted to fit my head with or without the buff.

yellow jobs? expand please

I don't wear glasses, but I do wear ones with removeable lenses for sun, rain/mist and dark. The yellow ones aid vision in misty murky conditions.

The problem is you are wearing a baseball cap not a cycling cap. A cycling cap is very thin on top allowing it to fit under a helmet. Personally, I went down the very radical route and had my eyes lasered. One of the main reasons was to get rid of glasses for sporting purposes; dinghiy sailing, running, cycling etc.

I too wear a helmet with a peak which keeps most of the rain off but not all, have wanted laser surgery for years but am too chicken to get it done:blush: wore contacts for about 5 years but always had spells of discomfort so now just stick to glasses.

Some folk put a product called rainex (from Halfords) on their glasses to help the water disperse/bead off. I've not tried it myself but it may be worth looking at.

A cycling cap does help keep water off glasses and can be worn under a helmet. You can pick them up for as little as a couple of quid each if you look around. A worthwhile investment imo.

I've got a detachable peak on the helmet and also find using a waterproof helmet cover helps keep the rain off but in heavy rain I just have to cycle slower

Sorry - not being a self-publicist or anything, but it is an example of cap + helmet.
Latterly, I have been using just cap - perch it further back on head and keep peak straight...keeps my riding specs reasonably dry.

It works!
