I recently spent most of the afternoon staring out of the office window at the absolute gale that was blowing, wondering how on earth I was going to cycle home. It even blew a fence over in the office car park. I was not looking forward to it at all, until..... I got on the bike and realised it was a tail wind! I've never cycled home in under 45 minutes before and that afternoon I did it in under half an hour! I wish I'd had strava running! haha

The wife was surprised to see me home so early - good news too, there wasn't another man being ushered out of the door when I got home early haha

My worst experience was 3 years ago. Having given up the car for winter, to see if we actually could do it, I was offered a ladies step through Raleigh racing bike from the 80's for free. It was about 8 mikes away a couple of villages over from ours. Dug out the cargo trailer, readjusted the cycle roof mounted carrier and bolted it to the framework of the cargo trailer and off I trundled along the cycle track through open countryside.
The ride there went without issue, however the ride home was horrific, I was on my hybrid, towing a trailer with a heavy ish 80's bike bolted in an upright position on top with very strong cross winds with fields either side, the trailer went over twice nearly taking me with it. That was a scary ride.

Nothing more disconcerting than seeing waves in huge puddles on the road.

How did you do? Sometimes the wind stopped me in my tracks,
It's getting really scary out there now!! I stayed off road whenever possible, but even so the bike acted like a sail and I got blown around in the gusts. Special thanks to the 11 plate BMW that skimmed past me on Lower Park Road - tw*t!

If youre in Manchester, are thinking of cycling home tonight and haven't set off yet. DON'T!!! Just get the bus/train/tram. The wind is almost like a hurricane.
