Hello guys,

I opened this topic for the news from my country, Szeged. I don't know, how many people will interest it, but I will try to post every events, routes, etc. I have a cycling blog with my friend called Szegedbicaj. (It's in hungarian)

Well, the newest story:
There is a new cycle path, but it's dangerous and awful, MK* tried to inhibit it, the guys showed everything (studies, examples, statictics, etc), but the delegates of the local groverment are dark and they told, it will good and safe. You can see our gallery about this route.

There is a dangerous junction on this route, we reported the problem. And one day the deleages put a table and they think the problem was solved!

"Please get off your bicycle and and push it!"

One of my friends cut up rough and he glued a paper on the table:

"Thank you to using the cycle path I found it suitable. I wait for your opinion! His name and contacts."

This label is already removed, the problem isn't solved.

Thanks for posting atomboy, excellent pictures, pity about the quality of the path.
It looks as if the Hungarian cycle route builders attend the same training school as some of the ones in Britain.
I wish you good luck in your negotiations with the "deleages", I think you may be involved in discussions for a long long time, but do not despair, you are not alone, similar discussions are going on all around the world.

Remember my video, when I lost the control of my bike because I wanted to brake on a dirty lane?
Well, there is a very busy cycle lane, it's on Csongradi avenue, i think, it was built in 2004. Unfortunately the city can't clean this street, because it's state road. So another company cleans the traffic lanes, but it ignores the cycle lanes. We've tried to ask this awful company to clean our lanes too for years, but it only promised but it never did it.
Sometimes the lanes were so dirty that several drivers parked on it, and they apologized, they couldn't notice the yellow lane.... Only the rain helped us, it removed the dust. And in winter... never mind!

So I and my friends decided to clean our lanes. We worked on Friday afternoon, it took 3 hours and we could clean only 400 metres. But the regional newspaper wrote an short but brilliant article about our project.

The cyclists were happy and thanked us. More pictures here. I'm the guy who has the yellow backpack.

Sometimes going out and doing it yourself is the only way! I've dealt with this regarding commual gardens etc (which we directly pay for), feels good to get it sorted.

Good work!

It's good to see a fairly wide cycle lane not just taking you in to the opening door of a parked car! So it seems you've done a good job of cleaning the lane. Most cycle lanes here are beyond useless in this regard so I'd rather see them removed from the roads instead
