Coming soon: Bonking on a hill near you!
So, I'm going to Tenerife in May for a holiday with the Mrs...read that as, I'm going on a cycling holiday and the Mrs will be there  Seriously though, I'm allowed to go on a couple of rides.

Obvious attraction has to be Teide, having read @Edge705 's post on a thread some time back, it really got me looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, it appears that the highly recommended company 'Pro Bike Hire' are closing up at the end of April :banghead: Has anyone rented from any other companies to share their experiences?

Any other recommended routes?

I've used http://www.bikepointtenerife.com/. Hired bike from them and took one of their tours. No problems, I'd recommend.

Heading up towards San Miguel there is a nice circular you can do for a shorter ride. I knicked a few routes off ridewithgps and they were fine including the Mt Teide climb. Just got back a few days ago and Teide is a beast of a ride in the heat at this time of year. Temps never dropped below 85 until right near the summit. First attempt I cramped up at around 5500ft and went back another day for a successful attempt. A mineral supliment is essential because you sweat so much. I drank 6litres of water and barely had a piss. The guy I rode with rented from bikepoint and he was well kitted out and happy with their service. If you do go up Teide observe the road quality carefully on your ascent as its really hit and miss between Arona and Vilaflor and care is needed on the decent. The top and bottom sections are fine.

Hi there,

I'm heading to tenerife in just under 2 weeks time now - and wanted to specifically know if I'll need a gillet or arm warmers for the decent down from Tiede into Playas de las Americas, the resort where I'm staying?

It's going to be hot, and I'll be getting up there as early as possible - from 7am probably, so will likely arrive within 2-3 hours fingers crossed.

I don't own a gilet nor arm warmers, and don't want to have to fork out for them just for this trip as I don't imagine I'll use them much in the winter as I have other gear, but it's not that packable and part of me thinks I'll be fine coming down/not get too cold....

Any thoughts and opinions appreciated.

I've heard it is certainly worth it to be honest. Long old descent at speed with sweat getting cold, I would think it needs it...?

I managed to pick up a relatively cheap gilet from Aldi and it has served me well through this spring when the weather has been a little cold...

Thanks Stu. I think I may invest in an assos blitzfelder jacket, covering the need to have arm warmers too.

Keen to hear from anyone here who's done Tiede, too.
