Cycling in the summer is dangerous

Men leering at women in a way that may make them feel uncomfortable is sexist. Telling people on a forum about the "eye candy" that's putting you off cycling is sexist. The reason it seems not to be is that sexism is so deeply ingrained in our culture that it's just become part of the background noise.

He did say "And the same for women too, if they see hot men strutting around."
Does nothing for me.

I've posted on this subject before but here's the thing - when someone leers at me, stares at my chest or my bum, it makes me feel extremely uncomfortable at best, often scared and vulnerable. And therefore gets me thinking about selling the bikes and giving up cycling.

I wear lycra because it's the best type of clothing for the activity but my doing so - anyone doing so - should not be misconstrued as giving permission for lecherous behaviour and/or comments, whether IRL or online.

So if someone just looks at you, you get scared?

many many moons ago circa 1990, when my hair went most of the way down my back, wearing tight black jeans, a big baggy t-shirt and a black leather jacket, I was walking through town and heard a car slowly driving behind me (pedestrianised area so normal).... as the car drew level with me, a bloke's head leered out the window and yelled "Get yer knickers off!" and as i turned he noticed my beard and for some reason, apologised. On the one hand it was quite funny, but also quite disturbing as no apology would have been offered if i wasn't male.

Not sure if trolling or just very dense.

I've female friends who report harassment and groping on the tube and on the street. Recently a man was caught acting weirdly round women at London Bridge and when he was arrested his dna matched a sample on another commuter's handbag. The man had masturbated onto a woman passenger. In this context a man staring at a lone woman's chest is extremely unpleasant.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
For me being scared would be a matter of where I was. In town I wouldn't be scared and would be more inclined to make a rather unpleasannt comment in front of people to whoever was staring at me. If I was isolated, alone, and with no one else around, then I would be scared as men are always stronger than women and you never know what they might do knowing there is no one around who can help you.

Like this answer, I'm only trying to understand the views of others.
