Hi all,

Im after a new waterproof cycling jacket for touring. I liked the look of the dhb signal jacket (£50) but its not got a hood. Turns out I couldnt find one cycle specific jacket with a hood! Do any exist?

Maybe a stupid question...but even with a jacket and a helmet on - your head is going to get pretty wet if your unfortunate enough to be out in the rain for a few hours or a day!

How do you all get on?

Cheers

Skull cap under the helmet - keeps my head warm enough not to worry about the little bit of dampness that gets through. Cold wet feet, though, that's a whole different ordeal.

Ive got one - Gore -kept me dry and warm in scandinavian, baltic et.al. deluges - never worn it with hood - I dont like the limited vison - either wear something more sensible for keeping the rain off - baseball cap treated with silicone works well or a helmet cover if thats your inclination - most european bike shops sell effective ones

edit-cold wet feet - neoprene bootees only way to go

I share your grief.
With woolly hat on and the hood up and adjusted properly I was ok for just about anything the weather could throw at me, legs and feet covered no problems, but I cannot get a replacement jacket with hood. The company I have had these jackets from in the past is no longer trading.
My need is more for utility cycling at home in winter rather than touring in summer where the odd soaking doesn't worry me so much as temperatures are higher.

Cycling jackets don't usually come with hoods, because, as ps points out, they could severely restrict rearward vision.

Walking jackets / waterproofs might meet your needs, though, and there are a few on sale at the moment.

But I would (have) still go for a separate hat rather than a hooded jacket.

I have never had this problem, the better hoods have wire inserts which can be bent to fit and ensure your sideways vision is never impaired reardless of how far you turn your head. (It might be a different story for helmet wearers, I wouldn't know)

Perhaps you touch on a valid point, if well fitting hoods cannot be made to suit helmet wearers, it is possible there is insufficient demand from us non-helmet wearers to justify a production line.
Oh dear, how sad. The helmet brigade could cause me to fall victim to hypothermia(((((((

I just bought a Ron Hill cycling jacket with a tuck-away hood in the collar. Bright yellow, reflective, zip pocket on the right rear. Cheap as chips for £20 and very happy with it.

... every day is a winding road...

I think you can get hoods to attach to Altura NightVision jackets?

OK only for the more costly Evo http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/Night-Vision-Evo-Jacket-Hood/ALTUZJAC356

I rode in a Sprayway Santiago insulated jacket today, it's very warm and waterproof, although a year old. Some waterproofs just don't keep their impermeability very well. I got this from Go Outdoors some time ago in a sale. It is toasty warm. The snow just beaded and fell off.. The jacket has a great hood, but I didn't wear it due to vision restriction as above.
