I must say I am very lucky. There is only one dog that ever chases me. The owner is insistent that I should stop my bike and patiently wait for her to get dog on lead. I am insistent she should read the dog walking rules pertaining to the country park in question which state "Dogs must be under control at all times". (Ironically she claims the dog is under control and it just doesn't like bikes ;))

We get chased by dogs all the time, pretty much every time we go out. They never bite you, just bark at your ankles. Still happily kill them though ;0)

At times like that, I often think it would be handy to have a full size pump attached to the top tube, to quickly whip out and bash the dog on the nose.

This post has made me think of another recent chavnomenon: walking slowly across or up the middle of the road in order to make oncoming traffic slow down. One tried this with me as I was leaving work the other day on the bike, slowly walking across the road, I saw him look at me in that 'you better slow down, you twat' kind of way. Being a twat, I sped up a bit and kept my course and saw his look change to 'oh shoot, there's a 17 stone bloke on a bike going to hit me' kind of look. Needless to say he skipped out of the way in time!

In spite of this I don't get many problems on my rides, I tend not to have to go through the dodgy areas around where I live so it doesn't appear to be an issue at the moment. Saying that, I was out yesterday about 15 miles from home and got the middle-finger from (I'm guessing at his age) a 4 year old boy who also called me a 'bam-pot' (arse-hole in English)!

Yep I find that an increase in speed combined with a head down posture has a direct affect on the actions of the chav(s) in question.

I got wolf whistled by some guy having a smoke outside the pub yesterday.
I don't know if he was taking the piss or if he saw my slender toned legs and thought I was a woman:laugh:

On Friday, on the way home, cycling along a resonably quiet street, there was a teenage girl walking down the middle of the road. Just wandering along as if it was the payment. I was comming up from behind and she didn't see me. I thought about shouting but from experiance it can sometimes do more harm than good. They often panic and flounce about not knowing what way to go.

Just turned her head just as I passed her and she jumped out of her skin! :0) hopefuly she'll take a little more care on the roads in future.

edit....

so you see, your friend is right. Yoofs and dogs are the same. yoofs think you have cycled off coz they hurl abuse. they don't realise your on a training ride.

Except!

In many cases the dogs are cleverer.
