Cycling tights-bib or waist fitting?

I’ve worked out what the cause is for the straps slipping off my shoulders. There is inadequate back material between the shoulder straps to hold the straps together (see photo). Basically, they are a very bad design, and being my first ever pair when I bought them 5 years ago I did not know any better. The brand is Polaris, and hopefully they have now improved the design.

I may be able to do something with the needle & cotton ready for the spring-possibly put a piece of material between the straps or something. In the mean time I`ve just bought a pair of bib tights from Decathlon for the colder weather.

Take up swimming, that if you do a lot will make your shoulders wider, and save you buying new shorts.^_^

are the straps tight or loose ?
I only have one pair of muddy fox bib shorts.
the straps are too tight, they dig in and slip a bit and my shoulders are fairly broad. I've ordered a pair from wiggle for next year.

I have bib tights with loose straps and bibs with snug (not tight) fitting straps and they are all fine.

ps. I wear the shorts with just a shirt over the top in warm weather. The longs I have worn with a base layer under or none at all.

It’s the absence of material that is the cause of the straps slipping outwards. Why you no understandy? See my bib tights at the side of the bib shorts. Plenty of material between the straps on the bib tights and no slipping outwards.

My bib tights are similar and that I think is by design as they are for winter! My shorts however don't have loads of material and again that is by design. None of shorts or bibs fall off my shoulders , they are all a good fit. They should be tight and once on the bike will feel better. Still convinced you need a different size as should not be loose or try a different make, some cheap ones out there are are just utter crap!

Just ordered some unpadded bibs from ebay so i can wear them over my current shorts, the plan is to add legwarmers too if it gets really chilly.

I bought a pair of padded women's bibs from aldi about two years ago lol.
they look the same as the mens but as someone on here pointed out the pad is different but tbh it is pretty similar, but for £7 in the sale they are excellent and I could always unpick the pad.
bought these from lidl this autumn for £10

Same price if no one else bids and might do @night cycler for a spare pair.

...... It was explained to me last week that I should not be wearing a tee shirt under the straps, and this could be the reason for slipping. (It feels a bit odd to not have anything under the top half of the body)......

A cautionary tale: I found out the hard way that, when you really need to go to the loo in a hurry, you'd better have your tee shirt and/or all of your base layers under the straps. I was out on a really cold day, wearing bib shorts and several base layers with jersey and jacket..... layered up like one of those Russian dolls. By the time a loo cubicle became vacant, I was already at the "fidgeting around like an Apache rain dance" stage of desperation, so I tried to cut a few corners in getting at my straps. After having practically tied myself in knots with one arm behind my back in a confined space I only just made it without actually touching lycra. I have only just recovered from the trauma.

I'd choose bib tights / shorts over waist high ones anytime.
I always wear a compression top under bib shorts / tights and only had any shoulder strap slippage with a very cheap pair of bib shorts I bought simply because they were cheap.
With Decathlon 500/520 series bib shorts or 700-series bib tights and with a pair of Lidl's finest winter bib tights there has never been a hint of slippage.
