Cycling to a restaurant

It's grand when you walk through the restaurant door with the Brompton in your hand and they say "yes, just pop it around there out of the way". Then off to a concert where they check it into the cloakroom for you.

I've delegated responsibility for identifying a restaurant next week to someone else . Still happy for suggestions though.

The best one I remember with racks outside in view of tables was the Grain Store up behind King's Cross station, but from what was written earlier, I thought that was probably the wrong part of town. A couple of the ones around NCR 4 on the South Bank have parking which might be in sight - might even be some parking inside Gabriel's Wharf (I've asked) - but I don't remember which I've been in when... many places in London seem a bit samey to me, not having distinct local characters like places out here

I think I'll ride in a trisuit and just don a polo and trousers when I arrive.

I quite frequently cycle to play in concerts - mostly cycling gear, but a T-shirt instead of jersey. In my rucksack a trumpet, posh shoes, dress suit , and music stand.I do occasionally get an odd look as I go into or leave the venue (quite often Exeter Cathedral), but I don't care: last time I drove into town it took me longer just to find a parking spot and to walk back to the cathedral as it would have done for me to cycle all the way from home. I just don the posh clothes over the cycling gear, and then am ready for a quick getaway at the end.

There was a lad a couple of years ago in my son's youth band who used to cycle to band practice with his euphonium in a trailer. Hats off to him - there are a fair few hills around here!

Rode to a restaurant for lunch with my son today. 8 miles along the canal and was pleasantly surprised that the whole route has now been hard paved since last year and any muddy bits are consigned to history so arrived at the central Manchester destination clean and relatively fresh.

Ate generously from the 'all you can eat' curry buffet and washed down with a pint or more of the popular tipple....

I'm not so much of a 'glass is half full' kind of guy as a 'The glass is bloomin empty, better get another' type person!

Worked out ok, the ride up was clear all the way, though Richmond park and the A3 brought on the sweats.

Not quite good enough for a client meeting though. Might need to buy some Castelli.

In a word "no".



Bought a Castelli jersey but it's far too racey. I should have bought another Sportful which is thicker and plainer.

take your time , I would be more concerned about cycling home after stuffing myself in a resteraunt

Not an issue. Went for a 50 miler today, and this included a stop at a restaurant for a spicy chicken meal plus desert. I was in full cycle clobber and neither me, nor anyone else seemed to care the slightest. For security I only had a cheap cable lock, but the bike was locked up in my plain view. I guess you would be fine unless you go overboard on food and drink.
