okay, this maybe a bit of a weak question..!

I've got an hour and a half commute into the City to a restaurant next week.

How do I arrive looking/smelling respectable?

Bike security is going to be a nightmare I suspect, may have to use a train stations facilities.

You don't. But you take wet wipes and a clean shirt and use the loos in the station to smarten up a bit before going to the restaurant.

Leave a bit earlier, warm yourself up to glow levels, then pootle the rest of the way. It's possible to cycle without getting any sweatier than from walking. It's also surprising how little time you have to add to the journey. Bear in mind, though, that cycling creates its own ventilation so any degree of overheating will make itself felt when you stop.

Go easy and roll along for the last 1/4 mile

take your time , I would be more concerned about cycling home after stuffing myself in a resteraunt :mrpig:
But the benefit is that you don't have to worry about the breathalyser... needing to balance acts as a restraint on how much wine you drink and how long you leave it before riding home... assuming you're not riding a tricycle

That's why it's important to coast the last bit:

I've ridden to a few restaurants over the years. Usually it's starting to cool down by the time you need to leave for a typical reservation time. I do resign myself to carrying a satchel into or using a locker near my destination, though.

I sweat when walking.

So, what - wear chinos and a polo and just hope it's not a wet weather day?

Looks like rain all next week. Plus I'd be sore an hour and a half without a chamois.
