Not sure how you work that out Foss? Depends how the final payment option is set up.

At 5.5 hours he won't be earning enough to hit any tax bracket, so no saving, as the scheme works as an interest free loan, but deducted before tax, if you don't pay tax you don't save anything. Trust me I am an accountant.

I even don't think it's worth bothering with these days, and my employers did the same, so offered interest free loans instead.

Matt can apply for it, but won't save anything from the scheme. He would get a better price dealing with a bike shop, then getting the interest free, if that's what he wanted.

ahh, i see, sorry didn't realise he was earning peanuts.

It is worth bothering if set up right. Set the loan repayments over a year, but "buy" the bike after 5 years at £0.

Mum even went and bought me a card, cidre, and chocolate to celebrate. I have been trying so hard to get a job.
Great stuff, celebrate by using your best bike as well, hope it goes well for you. Ground floor haberdashery, and remember to always ask are you being served! :-)

Haven't they been extending the coastal cycle path out in that direction recently?

I seem to remember then chopping down trees somewhere near the end of the last dual carriage way in that area for the path last year some time.

There is a little bit at the end of the dual carriage way which has been there fore a while now. But I will still have to use roads as there isnt a continuous cycle path along the coast. I think it would be very difficult for the council to do that as there is a railway line and multiple warehouses along the coast.

Do you even know how much bridges cost? A few years ago for work experience I had to design a bypass around a busy junction. The bypass ended up going over a river. The roads and signs ended up coasting about £100k but the bridge alone cost £500k. I admit that a cycle/shared use bridge will cost much less but as an example, Rhyl harbour shared use bridge is costing £10.3m to build.

Another factor is that after taking account of the salary sacrifice to repay the net bike payments each month, an employee's salary can't drop below the minimum wage.

Well done on getting job, hope it works out.
I'm guessing you all ready have a bike, so ride that to work and worry more about enjoying work than a new bike ( they don't stay new for long). If you want your new employer to promote/accept cycling you may be better to concentrate on provision for somewhere safe and dry for bikes to be stored, or possibly shower facilities.
I suggest the best thing you can do is 1st turn up on-time, energised and ready to work. The rest will look after itself.
Don't push too early, remember boss' look at what you bring to a company rather than what you want from it.

First day at work today. Induction only took an hour.

I scoped the place for a suitable place to lock my bike and have decided on some railings outside the staff cabin because there is a camera on it and a staff member is usually going into the cabin every quarter of an hour for a break. They also have lockers in the cabin which I can use to store some of my stuff.
Everyone welcomed me cycling to work and my manager was amazed at how far it was (only 9 miles).
Everyone there was welcoming and I spoke to a few customers and helped as much as I could. All in all a very nice workplace, very welcoming atmosphere, and so far a pretty easy job (apart from the annoyances of having to fold the same material over and over again because customers just throw it about).

the bargain section just outside the main building is great for watching old ladies fighting over cheap material . weak and infirm - my feckin arse they are.
