Erm, tried out the commute route today. Commute to work was fine, but commute back was a bit life-threatening. Had a skip lorry pass me within inches and actually made my fingers take avoiding action.
Then was in primary down a lane on a dual carriageway because the outside lane was closed (cones on center line), and I notice a van approaching from behind me. As he gets closer, he doesnt slow and speeds past me at about 50mph causing me to swerve out of the way and genuinely fear for my life. I have never been so frightened of being knocked off before. I am even thinking about taking it to the police.

Welcome to commuting on real roads. Try an urban commute next ;)

I'm sure there will be a visit from my clan in the not too distant future - we'll be mystery shopping to see if your customer skills are upto scratch.

you certainly need to keep your wits about you! its fun when you're used to it though. the bypass and shared path seem like a good idea :bicycle:
I'm gunna scope out a little route through a caravan park tomorrow that I think I can use (from google maps). It cuts through the local Golf course and Presthaven Sands.

It's a bit slow that route. Its OK for road bikes, but you'll be down on speed through the caravan park, and when passing peds. The main road is much quicker.

I just meant to use it as an alternative. On windy/rainy days or when it is particularly busy on the roads.

Haven't you watched the film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me"? Caravan parks can be freaky places.

No commute tomorrow. Bike is out of business (well not really but I dont want to cycle on a ruined tire). And I am not going to use my good bike because it means swapping over the pannier rack and possibly damaging the bike which I dont want to do. Plus it isnt insured yet.
Just going to get the bus again and will hopefully be able to commute on Saturday.

I scanned the workplace yesterday for security cameras facing where I lock my bike. There is one on the warehouse that I suspect catches it and there are others between my bike and the gates to the compound. Everything seems pretty safe anyway.

Have you checked that they are working though?
