Cycling Underwater

Last week I did something I have really wanted to do for a year or so - cycled under the River Tyne. I had a little cycle trip 25 miles from Morpeth along the coast to Tynemouth to realise this ambition. It was a lovely day out and the Tunnels were very interesting. I have a more complete write up and video on my blog here. Hope you enjoy.

Thank you for editing your post and adding that last bit. I don't do these videos for fun you know? Hours are spent selflessly creating the finished product for you lot to enjoy, for free, so it is nice to be appreciated a bit by anybody or even just anyone every now and then.

As for your suggestion to cycle the Netherton Tunnel. Well, I'm afraid it doesn't have escalators or lifts does it? It's just a long excavation next to some shallow water not even designed for cyclists in the first place. I don't just video any old hole you know. Now don't get me started on the Midlands...!

I need to go and polish my rim tape now. Goodbye.

()

I did it a few years ago. Possibly 2003 IIRC. The tunnel was quite eerie and deserted when I went through, and of course the lift and escalator was out of order at one end! Carrying a bike up a stationary escalator is not fun.
