You are correct in your general statements, especially in the case of newspapers and "lad's mags", but do you have any evidence of this being an editorial policy or common approach of CW, other than one very silly "mistake".
"I have a photo here of an attractive young woman of a north European phenotype participating in the sport that our mainly norther European, mainly male, mainly heterosexual readership is interested in. Shall we put that in our magazine, or this other photo of her dumpy, older friend?"

OK, so after paging through 5 pages http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news the answer is usually "Neither. Put in another photo of Chris Froome"

As for token, in those 5 pages of news there was one article about Chris Boardman's mum (who is literally described in the headline as "Chris Broadman's mum"), one picture of a woman on the back of Jens Voigt's tandem. It was on page 5 that the first article actually about a woman appeared - note she's now on page 1, good luck Jasmijn!

Say wh
My point might be that we have the same people on ignore.

Just that they will do what is required to keep and gain readers and keep and gain advertisers.
Say what you mean.
I have no one on ignore _ i like to see the world as it is, good and bad.

They're coming on one of our club runs (Sotonia CC) in October.
Let's hope the club crumpet turn out for the photographers!

Could be wrong, but did they not do Sotonia a year or two back?
Nope.
We might do some name badges; 'token black guy', 'token gay bloke', 'token disabled person'.

Cycling Weekly is generally dire.
I only ever buy it when they do a Tour-stage preview, those are OK.
They pretty much scraped the barrel bottom with that Hinckley lass's caption last week.
Tour of Britain preview was good though.

I used to lead lots of rides for a london borough cycling group. For the love of it.

I well remember being asked on a form for a one off grant from the local council what our group was doing to encourage cycling amongst various groups, including gay folk.

Did they seriously expect me to ask anyone who turned up of a damp sunday morn what their sexual preferences were, what they had been doing the night before and with who? If i felt somewhat shy about asking/thought it none of my bleedin' business were they offering to supply me with some sort of spotters' guide?

As it was we quite naturally got all types turning up. The only person i ever felt like excluding was some nit who turned up to tell us he thought it clever to buy bikes he pretty much knew were nicked.
I wonder if they're going to include dancing on the head of a pin in this year's Strictly.
Possibly. And more possibly someone will be along here to accuse folks of peering at real or imagined reflections in the head of said pin for cheap sexual gratification.
