Fell off the Brompton in bizarre circs on 03 July and suffered a broken hip more specifically described as Valgus impacted intracapsular fracture of left neck of femur. Underwent surgery on 04 July by way of two hole DHS.

Been on crutches with toe touch since discharge on 09 July but should be weight bearing after next week.

Anyone else got experience relevant to how soon I can be back on a bike and of expectation of full recovery to commuting touring etc

after my motorcycle crash i broken neck of femur/femur and tibula and fibula.
four months after surgery was back riding again (push bike this time)just take it very light and don't push your self to hard

I suffered an intracapsular fracture of the neck of femur in Feb 2011 after getting stuck in my cleets. I had 3 cannulated screws inserted. I was completely devastated and thought I'd never cycle again... (My fracture was a Garden 2 / 3, so quite severe but not as bad as it might have been.)

I was completely non weight bearing for 3 months and then partially weight bearing for another 3 months. I almost immediately started cycling again after that and I have never looked back. Although my left leg is not as strong as my right leg (and never will be), I manage to commute almost every day (17 mile round trip) and go for long'ish cycles occasionally at weekends.

Best of luck with your recovery - it's a long and slow process but you will get there eventually.

(My brother, coincidentally, also broke his hip last year - but not intracapsular, so less serious. He was treated with a Dynamic Hip Screw and he is now competing in triathlons and Ironmen...)

i ended up with 1/2" difference in leg length and cant walk a lot, anything past the end of the drive i use a wheelchair now but still trike most days.
i have done 100 mile loaded up with camping gear no problem.
just take your time and build up slowly and keep a eye on leg length as you may have to change your cleat position or build up a peddle to compensate for any difference.
