Does anybody else do both or maybe share a watch with someone? My partner is into her running, and im into my cycling. We were thinking of getting a gps watch that is simple to use but and work for both of us. We need it to have split times for each mile, speed, average speed, and then be able to upload the info on to the pc and be able to look at our route. Any ideas? we are only just thinking about this at the moment and may go our seperate ways with our own bits of kit.

Garmin & Bryton, Polar, Adidas, Timex, immediately spring to mind. I've a Garmin Forerunner 310 which I use for both running and cycling. Display is large and clear and customisable. Seeing the route is a question of where you upload it to i.e Endomondo, Strava, Garmin connect etc... Sporttracks is a nice bit of software to use.

I use my Garmin 410 for both running & cycling it connects wireless to the computer to download your routes, I would get my own, what if your partner goes for a run when you want to go cycling, there a loads of devices to choose from your hardest task is deciding which one.

problem with shared kit is the resetting of the biometric data, ie height weight and gender specific stuff. training aids arent really all that acurate unless set up properly, so if youre going to share particularly between male and female, then it'll be inacurate onthe training zones etc, as inevitable the data set will be wrong for one of you.

i would get one each and set it for yourself.

There no chance in both going out at the same time with two kids and a dog to look after lol.

Cheers for the info.

My partner is currently using a Garmin watch from a friend but its bad, it don't get signal in heavy cloud. And operation of it is poor. But she did not have to enter any gender or height details.

Gender and height details are quite often entered in the software you upload too. I've never bothered with watch settings.

I use a cycle computer and a GPS because the GPS seems to lag slightly on speed. OK when it's downloaded. A GPS track is an excellent way to review your ride and if I didn't run as well I'd just have a GPS bike computer.

Would you go for a cycle computer or a watch?

That depends if you don't run go for a cycle computer, my watch also does cadence like most cycle computers, but some bike specific ones do maps & height above sea level, I am not up to speed with all the latest models.

I have a garmin 310xt and have bought the quick release bike mount so I can clip it to the wrist strap when running and quickly twist it off and clip it on to the bike mount.
