But self-serving myths are much more convenient than facts. Don't expect drivers to read it. Still, good to see that the BBC has addressed it.

I didn't check to see if it was already posted either. When I read the article I thought it was worth sharing.

As a driver I have been under the impression for donkeys years that my car tax paid for the roads.

In the past i've copied/printed such information onto small sheets of paper to pass onto irate motorists. Some accept the information, some rip up the paper having realised that they are complete numpties!!

Honestly? Surprised to see someone on a cycling forum admit that! I thought that 90% of cyclists knew the truth about VED and 90% of drivers didn't

I hadn't given it much thought tbh. As a cyclist i have grown weary of gobby drivers shouting at me. I am looking forward to much next encounter.

Armed with your newly sourced nugget of info, I suggest you don't bother. Hardly any altercation lasts long enough for you to coherently explain and besides the driver will be in no mood to listen or agree.

Might be one for a pub conversation, though. In my experience, roughly 100% of drinkers I've discussed it with have been adamant that I'm wrong. Good to have a smartphone handy for that one.

surely almost everyone, cyclists or not assumes that gVED / VED / Road Tax pays for the upkeep of the roads until they learn otherwise.
