I know the police don't (and shouldn't) use emotive language, but I think we can. I'd like to see the title of this thread changed to include the phrase "hit and run"

Someone posted on Facebook this morning it was a white HGV, how they know this or can evidence that I don't know as yet.

Forensics. There may well be paint on the cycle or cyclist, and skid marks on braking or (god forbid!) tyre impressions on the cyclist could indicate the width of tyres.

Pure speculation, of course. But they release this sort of information as soon as they can, so friends, neighbours and repair shops can report suspicious damage before it can be cleaned up.
