Hmm. The fact you have to 'pre-arm the airbag' seconds before the crash makes it likely that half the time it won't happen.
Additionally, I wonder what happens if you pre-arm it for a vehicle approaching a junction that stops, and then get close passed on the other side...

If you have to notice the driver and pre arm the system, wouldn't it be easier to pull the brakes and take avoiding action
