by me. He'd gone on to the pavement to avoid a red light, changed plan, and wobbled on to the carriageway in front of the Babe and I as we set off when the light changed green, forcing me toward the car on my right. Having been through Islington twice in one day I'd had enough. I told him off and leant on him at the same time, shunting the wretch up on to a dropped kerb as he shouted 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry'. He is now.

And then gave a people carrier a swipe as it squeezed in to us from the right. So, redjedi, I'm sorry I wasn't very talkative when you came past a little later.

Dellzegg - sounds like a stressful commute- such idiots that line the roads of London...

Wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of you! Hope you're back home and stress free now.

I used to have a bit more respect for you.

My wife is a novice cyclist and uses the Farringdon Road twice daily for her commute. It's entirely possible she'd make this sort of mistake. Another cyclist yelling at her and "leaning" (what exactly did you do?) on her would upset her greatly and probably put her off cycling.

Don't be such a wally.

Then as you say...it would have been "entirely her mistake". She should not consider hitting the pavement or jumping red lights.

if she had, and it put her off, it would be a blessing as, if she's a novice and carried on with that type of riding, the results could be far worse..

now shake hands and make up;)

not possible at all. Unfortunately.

Yesterday I sat at a traffic light in Islington side by side with a chap considerably younger than me, but riding a Pashley and wearing a suit. The light was red. We waited. Other cyclists jumped on to the pavement to get around us, or simply barged past on one side or the other. The traffic coming across us was non-stop, and the chance of running the red light was zero, although my guess is that they would have all done it if they could. The chap beside me finally gave in and groaned 'these people'. To which I replied 'are rubbish'. You cycle around town for forty years and when the new millenium comes a substantial proportion of cyclists in one part of the city decide that they simply don't give a monkeys about their fellow cyclists or pedestrians. Lardyboy on the Farringdon Road went within inches of pedestrians and could have had me under a car - what turned it round to his distress was that I know how to ride a bike and he doesn't. Perhaps now he'll think of learning.

I don't think it was me either.

If it was up in Islington, then that is neither a) on my commute or  a place I take my bike, after what happened last time, as Landslide knows all about.

After a week of the Farringdon Road you should be pretty experienced with traffic. Jumping onto the pavement to avoid a red light and then popping back onto the road is hardly a "mistake". It's breaking the law, as well as being inconsiderate and potentially dangerous for other road users as well as pedestrians.
