The descent towards Swaledale has several dangerous corners, which require care and experience; quite soon after the start where the line of sight looks direct but there's an unexpected kink that's hidden from view. Then the fast left-hand curve past the actual Buttertubs, which is easy to overcook, then the hairpin and finally a long fast straight with a corner at the end. I've cycled it twice and motorbiked it several times and made mistakes on two occasions so my money is on this cyclist having just had an accident.
