For me when they do car pieces right, they do them right e.g. The lancia memorial piece, the look back at the Rover V8 etc etc Its a shame that at times they get too puerile/crap

My son is a huge fan (he's 12, DON'T JUDGE HIM).

As for me, given that I have a complete lack of interest in cars beyond how many bikes they can carry, and little time for the "humour" element, I usually try to be doing something else when its on. (Don't be too disappointed, I don't watch Strictly Ice Dancing, or whatever it's called either).

I do vaguely remember the old Top Gear, with William Woolard, where the Clarkson bit was a short "humourous" interlude. O Tempora, O Mores.

No problem at all, quite literally millions of other people dont watch TG either!

The old one had its moments and was definately more of the magazine/consumer show than TG today. I was lucky enough a while ago to get some of the old series on tape and it is fascinating to watch although obv I do skip the reviews of such gems as the MG Maestro!

Funnily enough, I have that recollection too - I found the rallying bits quite fascinating, especially his ability to commentate whilst rattling about like a pea in a can rolling down a hill.

I'd watch something that was about improving your driving, staying current on traffic law &c, because i do drive, and would like to do it properly. The Top Gear of today seems to have little to offer me.

As all Bristol cyclists will know, our local tabloid rag The Evening Pest...sorry..Post, loathes cyclists. I have toyed with the idea of inviting their editor out for a pootle by bike.

Following my last little argument with a First Leeds bus driver, I did suggest making available a couple of hours cycle awareness training for the driver in question ............ on the back of the tandem.

Managers refused - H&S concerns, I guess. Or perhaps worried about the revenge I might take, leaving him the same jibbering, quivering wreck he left me )

The top gear lads like to light the blue touch paper and stand back to watch everyone up in arms, their hatred of caravans is well known but two of the James May has owned one for years , its all for the shock / entertainment market that they come out with all the "we hate ......." comments

They just jump on the bandwagon of the jokes about Cycles , caravans , tractors on the road

Argh. I *have* a sense of humour. I love comedy.

(The forum have sort of done this before, discussing Michael Mackintyre, I think).

I don't find Top Gear's "humour" funny - I find it easy, cheap, lowest common denominator sort of stuff, that reinforces the prejudices of its audience, and may be contributing to the unpleasantness of British road culture. However, I'd not admonish *you* to get a sense of humour because you appreciate it, and don't like, say, Daniel Kitson.

Another of the medya "cyclists haters", James Martin, said he had bought a full suss downhill MTB.

Maybe it'll come in handy for his career...boom tish!

Although I heard his cooking mate Nick Nairn (IIRC) on TV stating that JM has never ridden his bike, because its too hilly where he lives.
