There are a number of regular antagonists (on both sides) that lock horns every time the word bicycle is mentioned. No matter who was in the right they seem more bothered by the fact they might have seen a pavement cyclist who got in their way in the past than the fact he could have been killed.

It is a very tight corner with no visibility around the bend leading to one of the steeper hills in Bristol.

Very difficult bone to break is the thigh bone. Possibly the strongest bone in the body. I would be surprised if this person didn't walk with a limp for the rest of their life. Still, they have to chalk it up as "lucky" all things considered.

The comments are best ignored.

Let's not forget the really important thing though...

"Police closed off Park Row for several hours as the lorry was blocking the road, causing tailbacks as people drove to work."

How dreadful for them....

I agree, a broken thigh bone is pretty serious, that and the humerus are about the toughest bones we have.

The comment by 'Terry' who was on the scene shortly afterwards seems balanced, maybe a bit of amber gambling on both sides?

No indeed. Apart from anything else, a break like that is probably going to be audible...

<shudder>

A colleague of mine lives a few yards up the road - it appeared to him from the immediate aftermath (witnessed by a housemate) that the cyclist attempted to undertake the lorry turning left.

Still, at a junction like that (i.e. where the lorry would have to move a good way into the right hand lane to make the turn), there is still some onus on the driver to look so I'll try not to be critical!

The only thing is that if it really was the last vehicles to make the turn before the lights changed (as reported by one witness) then it could be that the cyclist wasn't under taking the the lorry but rather been overtaken too close to the corner.
