A silly cyclist for not looking at that potential hazard which I'm sure we are all aware of.

Bus driver was good though. Holding back and giving lots of space.

this is exactly why cars should give "vulnerable road users" more room.

anyone can get it wrong at any time and there is nothing to stop you falling into the road way and under a car !!!

I did that outside the Dutch Embassy a while back. Caused a minor diplomatic incident when an Embassy official took me in to provide first aid then sent a letter of protest to Boris and Kensington Council about the state of the road.

As jig-sore says, it's only a matter of chance which way you fall and if a car is too close....

Still, I certainly pay a lot more attention to the road ahead now. Lesson learnt.

hope they report it.... if anything means the next person can claim for more..

wonder if it was a nicked drain cover ?

Looks like the wheel got pinched by a road surface defect by the way they flipped over the bars.
I agree, he was on his way down before he got to the drain cover, IMO, with the wheels tracking straight and his body falling to the left.

The drain cover just hurried the process.

Looks like there's a little lip to the left which his tyre hits and his weight still continues across to the left... he then turns the wheel too sharply and it all goes pear shaped. Some good driving by that bus driver in his vids. Seems very patient. Wish there were more like him/her!

And this was during daylight - the defects in the road surface surface would be a lot harder to see at night. It puts me off cycling in the dark hours on roads I don't know well.

After viewing the video on Friday, I had a look where he fell. I couldn't see anything different than any other drain on that route, not cracked of damaged that I could see. Having said that I think we all in Leeds can't wait for the road works to finish and the road to be re surfaced only another year to wait.

I checked his other videos, and never saw myself in any of them. perhaps I'm a good cyclist, or they've never filmed me yet

If you look carefully there appears to be a large hole which "leads" into a crack by the drain hinge, it would certainly grasp a thin road tyre
