I heard about this from a fellow cyclist who was on a course with me today. It is a bit close to home for me, I was cycling on this very path just a few days ago. A 65 year old man was cycling on the disused railway (now a tarmac path) which runs through Barassie and Troon, when someone jumped out of the bushes lining the path and relieved him of his bike. This happened in broad daylight, in a fairly affluent area of Ayrshire.

Couldn't find the story on the BBC website, as it is full of stuff about some sort of referendum that you may have heard about; but it is reported on Police Scotland's website. I wish I had kept my old but perfectly usable Carrera Vulcan MTB which was taking up space in my house until very recently, when I gave it to the local Cancer Research shop. The old boy could have had it if it was any use to him. These thieving scumbags annoy me (posting my true feelings would break site rules). I hope karma gets them :cursing:.

Chap I vaguely know is in his 70's, was in the Malay Scouts in the 50's. A few years ago some local youff tried to rob him of his car. He gave it the old "don't hurt me, I'm an old man!" act, and the moment they dropped their guard he twotted two of them, and they ran off crying! Johhny Scumbag was picked up in hospital having his jaw bolted back together, and he did time for it.

I'd pay good money to watch some scrote try and have his bike away.

Oh no! That is despicable and I can't say what needs to happen to these so called people who rob others.
I hope the chap is okay and they catch the thieving rat and throw away the key.

My Dad has just retired to Prestwick and cycles a lot will need to let him know to be careful although saying that he caught someone breaking into his house last year and had to be dragged off the guy as he was trying to hit him with a hammer. ^_^

Please do; as this is the path that runs all the way from the main A78 at the west end of the Prestwick airport runway, to Barassie. Tell your Dad to look out for a stocky bloke about 5'11" with auburn hair, maybe on a red MTB (although it has probably been traded for a tenner bag of smack by now). If your Dad sees him, he might want to get his hammer out again .

Absolute scum, hope they get caught/what's coming to them and that the victims alright, well as alright as they can be after something like this!

One if the reasons I used BikeRegister. Locks to protect it while it's not it use & security marking to deter opportunists while it's locked up & while I'm on it. Tho they would've probably have had to stop me to realise its security marked and could get more grief for it.

Scumbags. This sort of crime has happened on the cycle paths round these parts from time to time. I'd love one of them to steal my fixed 48x16 and then laugh when they get kicked off it head-first when they stop pedalling.

Scary, use that path often, I went that way 2 hours after it happened. When I did shifts I used to worry about someone jumping out on me in the middle of the night, not the afternoon.
