I reckon that it's not worthy of comment other than we don't know the full facts and we weren't there as witnesses.

Oh and another comment. The cyclist aspect is irrelevant.

The quote from teh Magistrate goes some way to identifying the truth.

‘inconsistent’ evidence given by police............... "

Doesn't make sense. He went thru a court trial, acquitted and helped by playing a recording of a phone call that exonerated him. The Prosecution tried to stop him playing the recording.

When can we make a comment?

The trial was for the assault on the driver, and the public order against the officer, so yes, I think it should be safe to comment on those as the evidence available is in the public domain.

His allegations against the police in custody though have not (unless sometime corrects me?) been heard in court yet? Reading the account given I have my own opinion, but for Vernon's sensible reasons would keep them to myself at this point!

Am I am missing something? Is there a court suppression order not talk about this case? We seem to offer opinions and views on all other forms of allegations. Lorry knocks down cyclists and we are all over the case so why is this different. I am puzzled.

The case is concluded, so it's free for all comment time.

Blackwood, as editor of the Hartlepool Mail, did bring a lot of Cleveland Police's many failings to the attention of the public.

He was a big thorn in their side, although 99 per cent of it was of their own making.

'A troubled force' doesn't begin to cover it.

So did some numpty Cleveland coppers see a chance of payback?

Surely not.

Isn't everything in a police station recorded, including the cells and well...everything?

I would hope the officers involved had enough wit to ensure his refusal to give a DNA sample, and the ensuing efforts to take that sample, were well and truly recorded. It shouldn't take four officers in riot gear to pin a man down and take DNA.... after all, all they need are a few plucked head or body hairs. Taking a mouth swab is not exactly without risk.
