I have just heard from my SIL that my 19yo nephew is in HDU of the neuro unit having sustained serious head injuries on Sunday. She said he had 'fallen off his bike' and she was far too upset to be interrogated regarding at what speed he was travelling, whether anyone else was involved or whether he was wearing a helmet. Hopefully that means that this thread won't become a vehicle for pro- or anti- helmet ranting, but I'm not betting on it!

R is now 'stable' but still not out of the woods yet. He has periods of consciousness but it is too soon to tell whether he will be left with any lasting effects.

I'm desperately hoping, praying, touching wood, and doing all sorts of other things I don't believe in, in a vain effort to positively influence the outcome.

Sad to hear that, SoaB. Hope he gets better and has no after effects.

Please keep us posted.

Horrible to hear. Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery.

Awful news. Must be an unimaginably worrying time for you and your family. Here's best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
