It looks like out of all those drivers, only the bus driver knew what he was doing!

All the other cars were just giving the ice a nice polish!

Nice, didn't expect that. Would have been tempted to push from the other end though since it took them 5 minutes to cover that 1m

You can see the difference even a halfbaked attempt at a decent driving technique makes.
check the progress made by the Beetle, who tried (half arsed, i must admit) to prevent the wheels from spinning too much and compare to the other car... (Honda Civic?) who just kept the revs up and kept on spinning those wheels hoping that eventually the ice would melt under his friction (or lack thereof).

Good old Cyclist:
Ice = feck it. i'll just walk calmly until i'm past it.. oh, you need help with your automobile? Of course, my leather soled shoes and slacks are more effective than your combustion engine and pirellis!

There must be quite a few new drivers on the road that have never driven on ice/snow before

that's an excellent point, this is far and away the heaviest snow I've seen i nthe 14 years I've lived in Farnborough. This area often misses the more severe weather conditions. There may well be experienced drivers in their 30's who've never driven in these conditions.

Come to think of it, I've not had much practice either:biggrin:

It's astonishing how many people seem to be clueless when it comes to driving in snow. I miss my old diesel; whack it in 1st gear and let it pull itself along without touching the accelerator, it'd get anywhere in the snow/ice then.

learning to drive on ice isn't even taught by dirivng instructors let alone on the driving test.

I even had to tell my parents how to drive on ice. and my mother told me last night that she was stuck behind a 4x4 who was spinning on ice up a hill. he wasn't going anywhere but backwards. she drove up it easy because she whacked it into second and didn't spin the wheels once.

I think i'd of been tempted to spin the car around so it was facing the wrong way :biggrin:

Fair enough the amount of snow is alot, and people are not taught how to drive it properly, but a degree of logic and observation would work wonders. I have myself seen many people putting pedal to metal this winter and going no where fast, whilst I tootle past without a care in the world adopting a "gentler" approach
