My sympathies to the piano tuner.

Is this local knowledge Colin? Local paper perhaps? I don't recall seeing the location mentioned in the BBC article.
There are not many 6 mile hills on the TdF stages in Yorkshire!

I did a search and found several references to dragging a piano up the Cragg Vale climb, including this article.

I looked up the weights of various pianos. Apparently, even a Steinway baby grand weighs about 250 kg and you'd have to add at least (and probably far more than) another 150 kg for the pianist, a stool, and the trailer. That's quite a weight to tow up a long hill with a steepish section in the middle!

"A bespoke vehicle called a PianoPorté is being designed and built for The Grand Departs by local sculptor Andy Plant. It will be powered by cycles, using a 2CV gearbox, and will be around 20 feet long."

It will be quite interesting to see how they make that work!

By the sound of it, there might be a number of riders on stationary bikes on the vehicle, all linked through that gearbox.
