It must be that time of year again but I now understand clearly why cyclists are such a hated group of road users. I'm a cylist and hate most of my fellow cyclists.

RLJing
Pavement riding amongst peds.
No lights, dressed in black.
Those with dazzling/flashing front lights. No effort to dip.
Riding through controlled crossings against red lights causing peds to scatter.
Jumping on or off pavements most frquently to avoid red lights.
Weaving in and out of traffic at speed.
Cycling wrong way along one way streets.
Leaving bikes anywhere causing obstructions.
Riding and dialling/texting.
Riding with headphones listening to music oblivious to what or who is around them.
Selfish, inconsiderate and when challenged abusive and aggressive.
No real idea of how to fit in with other road users.

I see this every day, but it does not tend to be cyclists

Pavement riding amongst peds.
Pavement parking is endemic around here

No lights, dressed in black.
I see far more unlit cars, or cars with faulty lights than cyclists on my commute

Those with dazzling/flashing front lights. No effort to dip.
Again far more of an issue with cars

Riding through controlled crossings against red lights causing peds to scatter.
Common practice for cars around here, the other favourite is queuing nose to tail across the crossings

Jumping on or off pavements most frequently to avoid red lights.
Most cars just go straight through - on Allaway avenue at least 4 cars cross after the red on every change

Weaving in and out of traffic at speed.
Try riving along the M27!

Cycling wrong way along one way streets.
The Cavell road exit from QAH is a no entry, yet no-one observes it

Leaving bikes anywhere causing obstructions.
See pavement parking

Riding and dialling/texting.
Almost any driver

Riding with headphones listening to music oblivious to what or who is around them.
Almost every car has their windows closed, which has the sa,me effect, then add any car wth music, especially the chavriolets

Selfish, inconsiderate and when challenged abusive and aggressive.
Portsmouth drivers described perfectly

No real idea of how to fit in with other road users.
Portsmouth drivers described perfectly

Why pick on cyclists, the sad reality is that there are poor road users in all groups, it just seems to be acceptable in drivers, but less so in cyclists

Might I add not giving other road users any space when overtaking? A chap on a nice bike today gave me a well meaning and cheerful "good morning!" as he scraped past my elbow. I replied with "Can I have a bit more space please?", which pretty much killed the conversation. I hope his reason for being so close was that I looked to be competent and predictable in my cycling so he didn't feel it was unsafe, but everyone has their own idea of safe and I'd like a bit more room next time please, we weren't in the peleton!

Could it be that these traits are those displayed by people with bicycles rather than cyclists?

Only if you make a distinction between motorists and people with cars.

Both are false distinctions with "cyclists" attempting to claim a "holier than thou high moral ground"

The guy last night in Wimbledon was a classic:
No lights, black/dark bike, dressed in black, wrong way round a one way system then up onto the pavement.

The thread title is the OP's opinion, yet it reads like a headline out of the gutter press.

Unless there's some dodgy research somewhere that says the title is correct.

Only if you make a distinction between motorists and people with cars.

I sure do, one is a careful and considerate pilot of automobiles, the other is not.

and that is just the last seven days. I hate **** drivers, they put my life in danger. **** cyclists merely annoy and represent near zero risk to me and mine

The OP, with GregCollins amendments, is a fair description of a proportion of all road users, from pedestrians to LGV drivers, with taxi drivers somewhat over represented.

My current pet hate is car drivers who, when wanting to get into premises' entrances just turn in, expecting cyclists and pedestrians and anyone else to jump out of their way. It's becoming very common.
