Enjoyed watching the womens' national championship race in the Netherlands this afternoon. By halfway it seemed to be a two way race between Puck Pieterse and Ceylin Alvarado while Lucinda Brand was trailing behind them. However a slip by Pieterse allowed Alvarado to build a small lead which she maintained for the final few laps despite a determined chase by Pieterse who kissed the championship bands on her sleeve as she crossed the finishing line as if to say goodbye. Brand took third place.

it annoys me they make out like it was some super big complicated expensive thing to do that with some professional broadcast support was near impossible, whilst there were literally people with just a mobile phone doing a better job.

and thats before you look at the many many youtubers who livestream constantly, often with multi camera setups they cut between, all manner of live events and actually do give professional broadcasters a run for their money, and they do it all for free as passion projects.

I also think it was pretty dumb to try this out for the nationals as their first go, when theyve had 6 rounds of the national series where they could have ironed out the problems and got familiar with the setup first.

because those that did pay 2.99 have probably now cancelled immediately and wont be coming back.

No I didn't pay, but I've seen Nick Criag's oh so classy 'slide' on Instagram (I follow him). Absolutely no panic when he came off - knew how to get down the muddy slope, but the front went at the bottom.

If he can come off, well, that's it for everyone else.

did anyone pay £2.99 to watch the British championships ?

Yes, I did. I thought it was well worth the money for around 4 hours of actual race coverage, with decent commentary from Marty McDonald and Katie Scott. There was a small technical problem with the feed at the start of the elite men’s race but it was soon sorted out.

I saw some of the live streaming from last year’s champs. 1 minute of action followed by 5 minutes of nothing until they came around again.

But then everyone expects something for nothing these days. I’ve cancelled my subscription for now, but I’d gladly pay again if they livestream the Road and Crit champs.
